Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Bristol City forward Andreas Weimann to ‘come back’ to Aston Villa, while speaking to his former teammate via Instagram.

You would imagine that a 14-time Austria international will be chomping at the bit as football all across England closes in on a long-awaited return.

After all, Weimann was in the form of his life before the global health crisis put the entire season on ice.

The Vienna-born forward hit double figures for the first time in his career during 2018/19 and, with nine goals recorded this time around, it seems only a matter of time before he repeats the trick under Lee Johnson at Bristol City.

According to former Villa captain Agbonlahor, a return to the Midlands should be considered for a man who rose through the ranks in claret and blue before leaving for Derby in a £2.75 million deal.

“Some player Andy, come back to Villa,” Agbonlahor commented as Weimann announced his return to the training pitch on Instagram.

A hard-working and versatile attacker, Weimann made almost 130 appearances for Aston Villa between 2010 and 2015, scoring 17 times including a clinical brace during a thrilling clash with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

If Dean Smith’s side fail to secure their Premier League survival when ‘Project Re-start’ comes to fruition, perhaps the door will swing open for Weimann to make a return to the club where he made his name.

After two impressive seasons at Bristol City, there is no doubt now that this is a man who can make the difference at Championship level.
