Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared an update on Wolves’ Rui Patricio and his potential move to Roma.
The goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s side for quite some time now, but it seems as though things aren’t progressing on that front.
Castles says that Roma aren’t offering enough money for the Wolves stopper, and now some people are concerned that the deal will not get over the line.
What’s been said?
Castles has shared the latest on Patricio’s potential Roma move.
“My understanding is that he (Mourinho) is struggling in this market, and he feels as if he is working under difficult conditions. An example of this is the move for Rui Patricio from Wolverhampton Wanderers to become the new goalkeeper at Roma.
“Wolves are happy to do that, they have prepared a replacement, who will be Jose Sa from Olympiakos, another Portuguese international goalkeeper, but they have been working on negotiations for the fee for several weeks now.
“Roma have offered €10m for Patricio, but Wolves’ position is that is not enough money, they expect Roma to increase that offer to get fair value for Patricio. My guidance is that Mourinho has been putting pressure on Roma to complete it, but they can’t get that deal over the line, and some people are now concerned that it may not happen at all.”

Not worth it
Wolves are absolutely right to hold out for more cash for Patricio.
€10m (£9m), shouldn’t be enough for any club to part ways with their first-choice goalkeeper, especially when they’re a stopper as quality as Patricio.
In our view, Wolves are making the right decision in holding out for more cash, and if that scuppers the deal, then so be it.
Wolves have progressed so much in recent years due to their great work in the transfer market, and there’s no reason that should stop now.
