Ledley King has claimed that ‘some of the relationships’ with the Tottenham players and Jose Mourinho ‘broke down’ during his time in North London, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show.

The former centre-back was on Tottenham’s coaching staff under Mourinho and he highlighted the struggle to play a ‘settled back four’ during the second half of the campaign.

Up until December, it was all rosy in Tottenham’s garden, as they were, at one point, sitting top of the Premier League table.

But that didn’t last long, as they soon found themselves fighting for those Europa League spots, and even though they reached the League Cup final, it was goodbye Mourinho before he could even walk them out on that Wembley turf.

King shared that things ‘started well’ during the first half of the season and then things were going ‘not so well’ during the second half.

“We struggled to find a settled back four, at times,” said King. “There was a lot of rotation in the team.

“I think the players started to lose confidence, especially the defenders, which was kind of a cycle. Coming into the team making mistakes, then coming out of the team. Then the next one would come in and make a mistake. It was a difficult situation for them.

“But ultimately, the team was placed to have a very good season, the further along we got, some of the relationships broke down within the players and the manager. Once that happens, then it’s very difficult.”

Sacking Mourinho is all and good, but it hasn’t exactly improved Tottenham and Daniel Levy didn’t exactly go about things the right way.

Levy has been shouting for years and years that he wants to end the club’s wait for a trophy, yet he sacks the trophy-laden coach, who has a history of putting silverware on the table, one week before the final.

Then there was the length in which Spurs took to find his replacement, which stemmed long into the summer.

And now, with Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout, the reaction towards his appointment has been mixed, including the start that he has had in North London.
