Newcastle United reportedly want Everton defender Leighton Baines.

Newcastle United fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to give their reaction to speculation linking the club with a move for Everton defender Leighton Baines.

According to The Mirror, Newcastle are interested in signing Baines from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.

The Chronicle, though, has claimed that the 33-year-old England international left-back’s wage demands are too high for the Magpies.

According to Spotrac.com, the former Wigan Athletic defender earns £70,000 per week as salary at Everton.

Baines is a hugely experienced defender who has been a success in the Premier League, and the 33-year-old is still going strong.

While the former Wigan Athletic star will be a good addition to the current Newcastle squad, the Englishman will not have any resale value.

Baines is also past his prime, which is why Everton are on the hunt for a long-term successor to the Englishman, as reported by The Mirror.
