Newcastle United have had an impressive start to the season. The Magpies have lost just once in their last seven games in all competitions, and they will be looking to continue that good run when they face Southampton tonight.

Steve Bruce was backed by Mike Ashley in the summer transfer window. Newcastle signed Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis for good money, and they also brought in Ryan Fraser, Mark Gillespie and Jeff Hendrick on a free transfer.

Every one of those of signings has impressed one way or another so far this season. Wilson has scored six goals in seven games, Lewis has been brilliant at left-back, Fraser is beginning to reach his best and Hendrick scored on his debut.

Newcastle fans should be really happy with their club’s summer transfer activity. But a few of them have urged Bruce to drop one of their new signings for the game against Southampton later today.

Newcastle fans want Hayden to replace Hendrick

Hendrick has started every single game in the Premier League for the Magpies this season. The former Burnley man picked up a goal and an assist on his debut at West Ham, and he has now become a key part of Bruce’s plans.

However, his inclusion has cost fan-favourite Isaac Hayden a spot in the starting XI. The former Arsenal man came on for the last seven minutes against Everton, and was an unused substitute a week before at Wolves.

Hayden has been one of Newcastle United’s most consistent performers over the last few years. The 25-year-old provides the shield the Magpies need in front of their defence, and he also helps in the transition on counter-attacks.

Some Newcastle fans want Hayden back in the squad in place of Hendrick against Southampton tonight.
