Newcastle United are reportedly interested in West Bromwich Albion’s Matt Phillips.

Newcastle United fans aren’t exactly jumping for joy at the prospect of signing a West Bromwich Albion man.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are showing interest in West Brom winger Matt Phillips.
The 27-year-old, who has two years to go on his Albion contract, was relegated with the Baggies last season, but could still fetch around £11 million.
Newcastle might be in the market for a right-wing option this summer, amid reports that Stoke City are weighing up a big-money move for Magpies star Matt Ritchie.
But quite a few fans of the St James’s Park club aren’t crazy about the idea that Phillips could be his replacement.
Here’s how some reacted on Twitter today:
You can understand Newcastle fans’ reluctance to sign him.
After all, the Scotland international managed a pretty poor return of two goals and two assists from 31 Premier League outings last season, which hardly helped West Brom’s bid for survival.
That being said, an attacking player like Phillips could flourish with Newcastle, if Rafael Benitez winds up signing some of the players that he has been linked with.
United evidently boast a better squad of players than Albion, so the former QPR man may dazzle when he is surrounded by better personnel.
