Jamaal Lascelles has quashed talks of a potential move away from Newcastle United this summer.

A number of Newcastle fans have been reacting on Twitter to comments that Jamaal Lascelles made to the Chronicle where he seemed to suggest that he has absolutely no intention of leaving the Magpies this summer.
After spearheading Newcastle’s promotion charge and hugely impressive first season back in the Premier League, Lascelles appears to have been linked with many of the Magpies’ top flight rivals – with the Chronicle alluding to links with the likes of West Ham, Everton and Chelsea.
However, Lascelles has provided the comments that almost all of the Toon Army have been desperate to hear this summer by insisting that he has no desire to leave St James’ Park.
“I’m happy at Newcastle. I don’t take notice of the media and I have always been told not to buy into speculation. I was told not to read into it,” he told the Chronicle. “Half of it isn’t even true anyway so I’m just concentrating on playing for Newcastle.

“I’m happy here, I’m captain, it’s my job and that’s all I’m doing right now.”
Unsurprisingly, the news has been met by an extremely positive reaction on social media. Rafa Benitez’s men have enjoyed a promising start to the summer with three signings already done, but most of that optimism would evaporate if the centre-back departed for one of their rivals.

There is still some concern that Lascelles’ comments may mean little if a Premier League side put a large amount of money on the table in front of Mike Ashley.
However, the majority of the supporters believe that it is fantastic that their skipper has seemingly committed his future to the Magpies for the coming season, with many suggesting that he is on his way to securing hero status at the club.
