Newcastle were reportedly in talks with West Bromwich Albion over a move for striker Salomon Rondon.

Salomon Rondon’s move from West Bromwich Albion to Newcastle United has reportedly stalled as the clubs struggle to come to an agreement over a transfer – and some Newcastle fans have expressed their frustration on Twitter.

Sky Sports claim a move between the two clubs have broken down, because West Brom are unwilling to meet Dwight Gayle’s wage demands, with the former Crystal Palace striker expected to head in the opposite direction.

In what was said to be a loan swap deal that would see both players have a permanent clause inserted into their moves that could be triggered at the end of the season, Newcastle may now have to look elsewhere.

It is believed the Venezuela international has a relegation release clause inserted into his contract worth £16.5million, but Newcastle have looked to avoid paying that by including Gayle in the deal.

The Toon do have money to spend, though, after selling Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham for a fee believed to be worth £22million, rising to £27million with add-ons.

Some Newcastle fans reacted to the news that a deal for Rondon has collapsed, with many once again frustrated that their club have failed to get a deal over the line. One fan Tweeted: “Not at all surprising”.
