Braga humiliated Newcastle with a 4-0 win in Portugal.

Fabian Schar of Newcastle United looks on prior to the Pre-season friendly match between SC Braga and Newcastle United at Estadio Municipal de Braga on August 1, 2018 in Braga, Portugal.

Newcastle United suffered a dismal pre-season friendly loss to Portuguese outfit Braga, losing the game 4-0 with all of the goals coming in the second half – and some fans are unimpressed with defender Fabian Schar.

The 26-year-old joined Newcastle this summer from Deportivo La Coruna, after Rafa Benitez opted to activate the relegation release clause in his contract which saw him leave for just £3million.

Schar came on for Newcastle in the second half, replacing captain Jamaal Lascelles at half-time to partner Ciaran Clark at the heart of the Toon defence. But Schar failed to stop Braga.

The scoreline read 0-0 at half-time, but the new signing failed to impress during the second half as Braga ran riot, finding the back of the net four times leaving Newcastle and Benitez bewildered.

Newcastle United's Fabian Schar walks off the pitch for the Pre -Season Friendly match between FC Porto and Newcastle United at Estadio do Dragao on July 28, 2018, in Porto, Portugal.

Not the best preparation for the 2018-19 campaign which starts next weekend, but Newcastle now have the chance to put that result right by returning to St. James’ Park to face German side Augsburg.

However, some Newcastle fans were not best pleased with their new signing’s display for The Toon, as he failed to do what captain Lascelles had done throughout the first half and keep Braga at bay.
