Newcastle United were brought back to earth last night.

Steve Bruce’s side went into last night’s clash at Manchester City on the back of some decent form.

Newcastle twice came from behind to draw with West Ham United at the weekend, after previously hammering Bournemouth 4-0.

But a ruthless 5-0 drubbing by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad was a humbling experience for the visitors.

Virtually none of the Newcastle lads played particularly well, but some Magpies supporters believe that on-loan left-back Danny Rose was the best of a bad bunch.

Rose, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, was unable to be much of an attacking outlet for the North-East side, but he defended reasonably well for his part.

And some Newcastle fans on Twitter agree that he’s the only player who emerged with much credit from the drubbing.

You could argue that Bruce orchestrated the defeat with his team selection, namely with the decision to play Emil Krafth in an unfamiliar centre-back role that he was exposed in big time.
