Newcastle United could be set to lose midfielder Mikel Merino and some of their supporters are not best pleased with the news.

The Spaniard is nearing the exit at St. James’ Park after just one season, following his move last summer from Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old has only made 25 appearances for the Toon Army, and frequently drew praise for his passing ability in the middle of the park.
The Newcastle midfielder is supposedly snubbing a move to Athletic Bilbao or Real Betis in favour of Sociedad, who can offer a greater chance of regular game time.

It will come as a big blow for Newcastle, who are short of creative players in their squad as things currently stand. Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie are the only two who can perhaps lay claim to being such individuals.
Merino really did show glimpses of his creative ability, and some Newcastle fans are not happy with the news that his short stint at St. James’ Park could already be coming to an end.
