Tottenham Hotspur overcame Manchester City to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
There was plenty to like about the second leg of Manchester City versus Tottenham Hostpur on Wednesday.
Not only were there five goals in the first 21 minutes, and another two thereafter, City saw a potential winner chalked off by VAR in second-half stoppage time of their Champions League quarter-final.
But it is a seemingly innocuous incident involving the Tottenham midfielder, Victor Wanyama, that has most delighted many neutral supporters.
Wanyama had just made an excellent sliding challenge to thwart a Manchester City attack in the closing stages, but when he came to decide what to do next the Kenyan was much less composed.
Rather than find a teammate, or even retain possession, he chose to (as one fan put it) spanner the ball out of play for a City throw-in that was taken almost instantly thanks to the Premier League champions’ multi-ball system.
