Some Middlesbrough fans call for refunds after FA Cup exit at hands of Newport

Boro were beaten 2-0 at Rodney Parade in Tuesday’s fourth-round replay. Some fans took to Twitter to express their disdain and shame.

Middlesbrough have fallen to their second big cup shock of the season as they were eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of Newport County on Tuesday night.

Back in December, the Teessiders were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage by Burton Albion, who basked in the spotlight as they faced Manchester City in the semis.

This time, with another tie against the reigning Premier League champions at stake, Boro floundered once again as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to their League Two opponents at Rodney Parade.

Things were made worse for Tony Pulis’ side in that he named a strong team, starting with four of his regular defenders, Jonny Howson, Lewis Wing and partnering Britt Assombalonga and Jordan Hugill up front.

It was hardly a smash and grab either – the Exiles had more shots, more efforts on target and more corners than their Championship opponents, who had a bad day at the office as they shipped second-half goals to Robbie Willmott and Padraig Amond.
