West Ham United’s losing run extended to three games on Saturday evening, as they were beaten 2-1 away at Manchester United.

The Hammers were looking to bounce back from defeats to Everton and Chelsea, but faced a tricky trip to Old Trafford to take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils.

West Ham were superb on Saturday evening though, having 58% of possession, 18 shots on goal and four on target, as well as racking up 11 corners as they piled the pressure on.

However, two penalties did the damage. Paul Pogba converted both, with his 80th minute spot kick sealing a 2-1 win after Felipe Anderson had equalised for West Ham.

It’s now five defeats in seven for West Ham, but fans can at least be somewhat encouraged by Saturday’s display, as even the most ardent United fans would admit that West Ham were the better team.

The game also saw Declan Rice start in the West Ham midfield as usual, but it was a particularly big game as it came just days after The Irish Independent claimed United want to sign him for £50million.

It wasn’t exactly an audition for the young midfielder, as he shines for West Ham every week regardless of the rumours, but United fans had their say on his performance.

Some believe that his performance was enough for United to make a firm bid, believing that he bossed United’s midfield and is exactly what Solskjaer needs in the middle of the park.

Others aren’t quite so convinced, comparing him to Tottenham’s Eric Dier whilst suggesting he’s no better than United’s Scott McTominay, so wouldn’t be worth splashing huge money on.
