Croatia defender Domagoj Vida has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Domagoj Vida of Croatia challenges Antoine Griezmann of France during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final between France and Croatia at Luzhniki Stadium on July 15, 2018 in Moscow, Russia.

Croatia’s World Cup ended died on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 4-2 by France in the final of the competition at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Zlatko Dalic’s men eased through the group stage with three wins from three games, before being dragged through tough knockout games, as eventual wins over Denmark, Russia and England all went beyond 90 minutes.

Croatia’s grit, fight and determination were on show throughout the tournament and they started brightly against France, only for Mario Mandzukic to head Antoine Griezmann’s free kick into his own net.

Ivan Perisic equalised, but Griezmann bagged a penalty following a controversial Perisic handball, and goals from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe put France 4-1 up, before Mandzukic capitalised on a Hugo Lloris error grabbed a consolation.

Croatia were left with a 4-2 defeat, but they impressed throughout the competition and on Sunday afternoon, with Dalic’s side starring thanks to input from big names like Mandzukic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

Others who maybe weren’t such household names also impressed through the competition, and defender Domagoj Vida is one such player, having featured alongside Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren for much of the tournament.

Formerly on Dynamo Kiev, the Besiktas ace was full of heart, desire and strength in the heart of the Croatia defence, and what he lacked in pace and technical ability, he more than made up for with blood and guts.

At 29, Vida is entering the final stages of his prime, but Fanatik in Turkey report that Liverpool are pushing to sign him having offered €20million (£18million) for his services, as Jurgen Klopp allegedly looks to reunite him with Lovren.

Now, Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to make a deal happen after his World Cup final display, with supporters suggesting that they are now convinced he is the right man for the Reds and would be a positive signing this summer.
