Some Liverpool fans have called on Jurgen Klopp to give Oxlade-Chamberlain a shock start against Manchester City this evening.
Anfield plays host to arguably the Reds’ biggest game of the season so far.
The reigning Premier League champions are fourth in the table right now and victory for City would give Pep Guardiola’s side – who also have a game in hand – a 10-point lead over Liverpool.
Even for the Merseysiders, clawing back a deficit like that is a near-impossible task.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has only started two Premier League games this season, has some wonder goals against City in his locker – including one for Arsenal in a Community Shield win – and some fans of the Anfield club want to see Klopp start the former Gunner in midfield this evening.
Here’s what they’re saying:
Will this happen? Almost certainly not.
As talented as Oxlade-Chamberlain – a £40 million signing in 2017 – is, he’s bang out of form for Liverpool right now and even if Klopp uses Jordan Henderson in central defence, Gini Wijnaldum, Thiago and Curtis Jones will still more than likely be their midfield-three.
