Some Liverpool fans on Twitter are taking aim at Adam Lallana over his latest comments.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo, Lallana, who endured two separate lengthy spells on the sidelines last season, said that he considered himself a “new signing” now.

“Last season was so stop-start that it was more or less written off,” the 30-year-old, who earns £65,000 per week [Total Sportek] on Merseyside, said.

“It probably is like having a new signing to be fair. I had a good break. I probably physically didn’t need it hence why it was good to meet up with England and train for a week.

“I also trained by myself over the summer. I came back, had a little bit of illness in the first three or four days and missed the game at Chester, but the minutes since then have been brilliant for me.”

However, it’s safe to say that Lallana’s comments haven’t gone down well with Liverpool fans at all, many of whom have mocked him for resorting to such a clichéd phrase in football.

There are probably two reasons for the vitriol.

On one hand, Lallana is getting stick for using such a battered term, but it might also be because the Reds have left him behind.

With Mo Salah and Sadio Mane on the wings, and Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain potentially in midfield this season, Lallana is an also-ran in Jurgen Klopp’s squad these days.

The former Southampton man, who joined the Anfield club in 2014, is nowhere near as important as he once was and therefore claiming to be like a “new signing” doesn’t mean all that much.
