Some Liverpool fans on Twitter haven’t reacted well to Timo Werner’s goal last night.
The German attacker scored in his country’s 1-1 Nations League draw with Spain.
The former Leipzig hitman was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool for much of the year, but Chelsea wound up winning the race.
It was later reported that the Reds had reservations over paying the £47 million needed to prise him from the Bundesliga side.
Given how long Werner had been on Liverpool’s radar, it hurt fans of the Anfield club to miss out on him – and especially when he joined the Blues, a Premier League rival.
And here’s how Liverpool supporters reacted to his goal last night:
The reality is that every time he scores a goal for club or country, those affiliated with the Merseysiders are going to be upset.
But it’s worth remembering that Jurgen Klopp still probably has the best attacking trident in European football and the truth is that Werner wasn’t even guaranteed to play every single week.
As crazy as it sounds, he might’ve been a squad player at Liverpool because there’s no reason for Klopp – whose side scored well over 100 goals in all competitions last season – to drop Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane to accommodate him.
