Some Liverpool fans on Twitter are drooling over Thiago Alcantara’s debut for them this evening.
The Premier League champions drew a line under months of transfer speculation on Friday by finally signing the 29-year-old from Bayern Munich.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp prompted cause for excitement this afternoon by naming the Spain international in his squad for the trip to Chelsea.
And Klopp gave the Reds faithful what they wanted at half-time when he introduced Thiago for Jordan Henderson.
Despite this being his debut, Thiago looked like he’d been playing for this side for years, with his vision, technique, range of passing and ball control ensuring a seamless transition into this team.
And that’s precisely what Liverpool fans are saying on Twitter:
Thiago aside, it was a brilliant 2-0 win for Klopp’s side.
A double from Sadio Mane early in the second half set up the champs to take three points back to Merseyside with them, after a red card for Andreas Christiansen.
Chelsea had a route back into the game when a penalty was awarded in their favour – and conceded by Thiago – on 75 minutes, but Alisson denied Jorginho from 12 yards.
It remains to be seen how serious Henderson’s injury is but, with Thiago as his replacement, tears among Liverpool fans will be at a minimum.
