Liverpool fans on Twitter weren’t liking the look of Kalidou Koulibaly last night, it appears.
The Senegal centre-back struggled in a major way as Napoli were dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona.
Like hundreds before him, Koulibaly struggled with the speed and movement of Lionel Messi, who drew a bizarre foul from the big defender to win a penalty which Luis Suarez converted.
Overall, it was a night to forget for the 29-year-old who, according to Tutto Napoli, is on Liverpool’s radar with regards to a potential swoop.
Much of the speculation this week has centered around him possibly joining Manchester City.
But if the Reds are or were genuinely interested, some fans of the Anfield club might not be keen.
It has to be remembered that Liverpool fans are judging his performance against perhaps the greatest footballer to ever lace up a pair of boots.
Hell, their very own Virgil van Dijk didn’t cover himself in glory against Messi – or Suarez for that matter – in a 3-0 Champions League defeat at Camp Nou back in 2019, and yet the big Dutchman remains arguably the best centre-back of his generation.
There’s no shame in struggling against the GOATness of Messi and Koulibaly is no less of a player because of it.
