Liverpool fans have praised Ivan Toney for a dominant performance during Brentford’s 3-3 draw against the Reds on Saturday.

It was a goal-fest in the capital, as Thomas Frank’s newly-promoted side held their own against a star-studded Liverpool team full of world-class talent.

Whatever Liverpool threw at the Bees, they continued to fight back and they stung their opponents eight minutes from time with the equalising and sixth goal of the game through Yoane Wissa.

Toney was a constant threat throughout the game, showcasing a brilliant first touch, awareness, link-up and brute strength to cause both Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk problems.

For the opening goal, Toney produced a moment of magic because, after the ball was fired across the six-yard line, he flicked the ball in a clever manner across the goal and into the path of Ethan Pinnock.

Liverpool fans were impressed with what they saw from the hard-hitting Englishman, who is a boyhood Red.

It has been an outstanding start to the season for Brentford – they are sitting in the top ten after six games – and Toney has played a huge part in that.

This hasn’t been an easy journey for the 25-year-old because he has tasted Premier League football before.

He started life at Northampton as a teenager, before getting his big move to Newcastle United.

But it just didn’t work out for the striker in the North East, as several loan spells at football league clubs eventually saw him land on Peteborough’s doorstep.

After goals-galore for the Posh, those at Griffin Park, after losing Ollie Watkins, turned to Toney to try and fire them to the elite.

Not only did he do it, but he did it in style by scoring an impressive 31 league goals – a Championship record.

Now, after six games in England’s top-flight, he has two goals and two assists to his name.

And not only is he impressing his own supporters, but those in Liverpool colours were also taking notice of what he produced yesterday.
