A former Liverpool player made his full Premier League debut last night.
Some eyebrows were raised when the Reds sold promising young defender Ki-Jana Hoever to Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer.
But with competition so fierce at Liverpool, and the 18-year-old wanting senior football, the young Dutchman made the brave decision to quit Anfield in favour of Wolves.
And going by his performance last night, Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards might’ve lost a future star.
Wolves lost 1-0 away to Manchester United, but it was a brilliant full debut for Hoever following a £13.5 million switch to Molineux in September.
He looked very tidy, very solid and remarkably composed for such a big occasion, making your bow at Old Trafford.
And here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to his performance last night:
The irony is that Hoever – who can play right-back and centre-back – probably would’ve got quite a lot of action in Liverpool’s senior squad this season.
Klopp has seen his central-defensive options decimated in recent months, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out for the foreseeable future, while Joel Matip continues to yoyo in and out of the treatment room.
But whether it’s for Wolves or Liverpool, the important thing for Hoever is regular games and long term this probably was the smart choice.
