Liverpool have taken a big step towards the knockout stages of the Champions League after a comfortable 4-1 win away to Belgian side Genk.

Two goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain combined with late efforts from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to ensure that Jurgen Klopp’s team move on to six points in Group E, just behind Napoli.

It was an important win considering Liverpool haven’t had much success away from home in the group stages of the competition over the last 14 months.

The European champions are now in good shape though and can look forward to a home match against Genk on November 5th.

For many, Oxlade-Chamberlain was the undoubted stand-out.

His second effort of the night in particular was incredible and could be a goal-of-the-season contender.

He curled an absolute beauty in with the outside of his boot from outside of the box, the ball going in off the crossbar and leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

The double was fine reward for an excellent all-round display on his first start for the club since September. His return looks to have really added something to the Reds’ midfield.

Now overcoming fitness issues, a motivated and confident Oxlade-Chamberlain could be very difficult for Premier League teams to cope with.

These fans were certainly impressed with his contribution, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts tonight…
