Some Liverpool fans on Twitter have been raving about the emerging centre-back partnership of Fabinho and Joel Matip.

The Reds’ defence has been pretty much wiped out by injury in recent weeks with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk ruled out for the majority of the season.

In order to combat these injuries, Jurgen Klopp has tried a few different centre-half pairings, with the likes of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams given a go in the defence, but fans seem to believe that Matip and Fabinho is the way to go forward.

This comes a week after Rio Ferdinand claimed that Matip wasn’t 100 per cent comfortable with playing alongside Williams.

It’s hard to disagree with that view as well, Matip and Fabinho are the two most experienced options Klopp has in that position, and they’ve just kept a clean sheet against a very talented Ajax side.

Of course, the manager would rather have the option of using van Dijk and Gomez, but this emerging pairing seem to be doing a good enough job to keep the Merseyside outfit competitive.

Some supporters believe that Matip and Fabinho are already up there with the best centre-back pairings in the league, while one fan claimed that if they stay fit, they’re good enough to lead the Reds to another league title.

Whether or not Matip and Fabinho can help Liverpool retain the Premier League remains to be seen, but if they carry on keeping clean sheets they’ll have a great chance.
