Liverpool’s U19s side have taken a big step towards progression in the UEFA Youth League after a 2-0 win over Genk on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory means they now have seven points in Group E after three matches, three points clear of Genk and Salzburg.

After a penalty gave the travelling Reds the lead heading into half-time, a big second half performance was required to see the result through.

The highlight of the second 45 minutes came when Harvey Elliott created a lovely assist for Curtis Jones, chipping a ball for the attacker to control and fire home.

Still just 16, Elliott is showing excellent progress and now has five assists for the season at varying Liverpool age groups.

He also famously became the youngest ever player to start a match for the senior side back in September, playing in a League Cup match against MK Dons.

His future is certainly bright and performances like today’s will only see those hype levels rise further. The teenager is very much on the radar of Jurgen Klopp.

Will he get more first-team action between now and the end of the season?
