Some Liverpool fans are urging Jurgen Klopp to bring Joel Matip back into the first XI this evening.

The Reds have a huge clash away to Manchester City later today and Klopp might have a welcome injury boost.

Matip, who earns £100,000 per week, has missed the past few weeks for Liverpool due to injury and the German manager teased about his selection on Friday.

His absence was even more felt by virtue of the fact that Virgil van Dijk was also missing.

Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have done a decent job deputising alongside Joe Gomez in recent weeks but, against Pep Guardiola’s side, the experience and nous of Matip is badly needed for Liverpool.

And here’s what some fans of the Premier League champions are saying on Twitter.

Guardiola ruled Sergio Aguero out of the clash due to a hamstring injury.

Gabriel Jesus can still be a major handful on his day, but the Liverpool defender would much rather come up against him than Aguero in his first game back.

Matip has been back in full training for the past week-and-a-half so, really, a recall wouldn’t be a huge surprise.
