Liverpool fans have spotted something brilliant in Ibrahima Konate’s latest post on Twitter.
The 22-year-old defender is on holiday after representing France at the Under-23 European Championships this summer.
That competition began almost immediately after Red Bull Leipzig’s season ended.
Prior to the tournament, it was confirmed finally that Konate had joined Liverpool in a £36 million deal from the Bundesliga side.
There was a lot of speculation and a bit of a delay, but the big centre-back will be in Jurgen Klopp’s squad next season.
Konate turned 22 in May but it looks like he has only gotten around to celebrating it now.
The big man posted a photo on Twitter and suffice to say that the Liverpool-themed cake has gone down well with some fans of the Anfield club.
No guarantee
Konate comes with a big reputation but there’s no guarantees that he’ll play regularly.
Klopp will have Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip fit for the start of next season – well, the first two anyway because it’s difficult to predict anything fitness-wise with the latter.
But Konate will know that if he wants to play regularly for Liverpool, he’ll have to earn it.
Commanding a £36 million price-tag only confirms that you’re a big name. He is yet to prove he’s a big player for the Reds, but he’ll surely relish the challenge.
