Will this be the year that former Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson finally wins promotion?
The big Sweden international helped Brentford to a brilliant 3-2 win at Cardiff City on Saturday.
In doing so, Jansson, who spent three years as a Leeds player, is captaining a side who sit fourth in the Championship and with a four-point cushion.
It’s still very early days, but the former United powerhouse has turned the Bees into a fine side and they’ll be hoping to bounce back from the disappointment of losing the playoff final last season.
A year before that, Jansson was part of the Leeds squad that were eliminated from the playoffs by Frank Lampard’s Derby City.
Here’s how fans of the Elland Road club responded to his Boxing Day tweet after the win in Wales:
As popular as Jansson was among fans of the West Yorkshire side, he hasn’t been missed.
Marcelo Bielsa masterminded a promotion-winning season in the first year without having Jansson in defence, which isn’t a dig at him because he’s a brilliant defender, as he is proving.
It just indicates that Bielsa clearly knew Leeds could survive without him and the proof is very much in the pudding.
