A number of Leeds fans took to Twitter to comment on Ryan Edmondson’s performance during the Whites’ latest pre-season friendly, which once again ended with seven goals being scored.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men went into the game with Guiseley off the back of a disappointing 4-3 defeat to Oxford United earlier in the week so the new head coach would have been hoping for a reaction. However, despite coming up against non-league opposition, Leeds got off to a similar start to the one at the Kassam Stadium as the home side took a 2-0 lead during the early stages.

Leeds would fight back on this occasion and ultimately run out 4-3 winners. It was another performance that highlighted some of the battling qualities that the youngsters in the side possess – once again, Bielsa only picked a handful of senior players for the game – but will also leave many of the fans concerned with the new Championship season little more than a week away.

One player who will be giving the supporters reason for optimism is Edmondson. The 17-year-old goes into pre-season off the back of a stunning first campaign with the Whites having scored plenty of goals for the academy sides since his arrival from York City, and he may well have impressed Bielsa on Thursday.

The striker scored twice in the win before being replaced by Sam Dalby, and that brace has prompted a number of fans to suggest that the teenager deserves to be considered for a more prominent first-team role during the coming campaign.

Leeds currently lack options up front, and it is perhaps fair to say that none of the strikers within Bielsa’s squad are currently doing a better job of staking a claim for a chance than Edmondson is right now.
