It’s fair to say that Leeds United fans have a love-hate relationship with Patrick Bamford.
Since he joined the Whites two years ago, there probably hasn’t been a more divisive player among the Elland Road faithful than the English striker.
But the only opinion that matters is that of Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, who loves the 27-year-old – and so do many United supporters after his performance today.
Bielsa’s side played out an enthralling seven-goal thriller with Liverpool at Anfield on their return to Premier League action.
This was Leeds’ first top-flight game in over 16 years and it was Bamford who fired the visitors back on level terms after 30 minutes.
A rare defensive error from Virgil van Dijk was pounced on by the former Chelsea forward, who clipped the ball over Alisson to make it 2-2 following an end-to-end first half-hour on Merseyside.
Scoring at the home of the champions on the first day of the season isn’t a bad way for a striker to kick off the new campaign, even if Bielsa’s troops wound up losing 4-3 from a last-minute Mo Salah penalty.
And suffice to say that this is one of the days where Leeds fans love their number nine.
