Leeds United’s pre-season preparations continued on Tuesday night as they were beaten 4-3 by League One side Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.

The Whites have been racking up the games of late as Marcelo Bielsa attempts to prepare his side for the new Championship season, but their trip to Oxford was a fairly miserable one.

James Henry put Oxford into an early lead, and after Rob Hall made it 2-0, Henry capitalised on Will Huffer’s parry by sticking away a third goal for Karl Robinson’s side.

Tyler Roberts pulled one back for Leeds, only for Jonathan Obika to re-establish the three-goal lead for Oxford, and goals from Lewis Baker and Jack Clarke for Leeds finished up the scoring at 4-3.

Bielsa won’t be pleased with the amount of goals conceded, but one player in his back four did impress, and that was teenager Jamie Shackleton.

The 18-year-old has largely been a midfielder by trade in the early stages of his career, but Bielsa played him at right back against Oxford, and he showed his quality in a fine performance.

Shackleton showed pace and endeavour going forward, and his performance suggested that he may just have a future at right back after all – even though Bielsa does already have Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi available in that position.

Leeds fans have been taking to Twitter to react to Shackleton’s display, with many not only raving about his potential, but also his ability right now, and suggested that he was the best player in a Leeds shirt at the Kassam Stadium.
