Some Leeds United fans are praising Victor Orta after his signing of Barry Douglas.

Most Leeds United fans are delighted with the signing of Barry Douglas – but some have also reserved a lot of praise for Director of Football Victor Orta.

Leeds completed their signing of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back on Saturday.

According to Sky Sports, the Scotland international joins United for around £3 million – a potential bargain when you consider that he helped Wolves to Premier League promotion last season.

It’s only the Whites’ first permanent signing of the summer and plenty of Leeds fans had been criticising Orta and owner Andrea Radrizzani in recent weeks over their pace in getting deals over the line.

But it’s fair to say that plenty of United supporters have given credit where it is due – and particularly to Orta.

Being the Director of Football, Orta is always and will always be the fall guy on the transfer front, considering that’s his job.

His record since joining the West Yorkshire side last summer has been, let’s say, questionable at the best of times.

But replacing Paul Heckingbottom with a box-office name like Marcelo Bielsa was a huge step forward for Leeds and it looks Orta – who mostly bought untested players last summer, including over 10 talents for the Under-23 side – has modified his approach and is now looking for proven figures on and off the pitch.
