Ireland fans suggest that Tottenham Hotspur new boy Matt Doherty may not be the most comfortable in a back-four.
Ireland played against Bulgaria last night, with all eyes on Tottenham’s new recruit.
However, Doherty and his Ireland teammates did not have the best game, as they picked up a 1-1 draw in Bulgaria.
Doherty was actually selected to start ahead of Seamus Coleman.
But some Ireland fans do not feel that the full-back is best suited to playing in a back-four, which could be a concern for Tottenham.
Jose Mourinho looks likely to use a four-man defence next season, but Doherty’s role will be more like a wing-back than a conventional full-back, if the Portuguese boss sticks to the same game plan.
Serge Aurier was given plenty of attacking licence last term, and Doherty may need similar freedom to thrive upon his arrival at Spurs.
