The ‘sacked’ Hibernian manager used to play for Sunderland.
Some Hibernian supporters calling the appointment of a former Sunderland manager – just days after Hearts fans did likewise.
Hearts sacked Craig Levein on Thursday and Hibernian have reportedly followed suit by axing Paul Heckingbottom (Edinburgh Evening News) – a one-time Sunderland player, and managerial target.
The English side recently experienced a dugout change of their own, replacing Jack Ross with Phil Parkinson.
And Ross, who previously worked for Hearts as a coach, was linked with a return to Edinburgh with both of the city’s Premiership clubs while still at the Stadium of Light (The Sun).
The 43-year-old took Sunderland to the League One play-offs last season and before then led St Mirren into the Scottish Premiership.

Another out-of-work ex-Sunderland boss, Chris Coleman, was linked with a return to management with Southampton.
Coleman preceded Ross at Sunderland and later had a spell in Chinese football.
