‘Some great’: Brendan Rodgers hails another Tottenham player after Son praise

Brendan Rodgers has praised Hugo Lloris for making ‘some great saves’ during Tottenham Hotspur’s 6-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

Son Heung-min stole the headlines when he scored a stunning second-half hat-trick against the struggling Midlands side, as Rodgers felt, at 3-2, Lloris made a ‘great save’ to deny another Foxes equaliser, before he felt the game ‘opens up’, as he told Sky Sports.

In truth, the game was open and expansive from the get-go, with Youri Tielemans’ re-taken penalty starting the crazy eight-goal showdown in north London.

France’s number one had initially saved Tielemans’ spot-kick, but it had to be re-taken because he had both feet off his line at the point of contact.

It didn’t matter too much for Spurs because, in next to no time, they were back in the lead, with Leicester’s set-piece woes hitting them hard again.

Despite that defeat, Rodgers was trying to look at the positives for his side, as he praised the opposition’s captain between Tottenham’s stick.

“We just got punished for mistakes,” said Rodgers. “I asked the players before the game, to play with that courage and be brave. They were certainly that. 

“But we concede early on in the second half. It’s 3-2, then Lloris makes a great save for 3-3 each. And then we lose the ball, it becomes 4-2 and then it becomes open during the last 15 minutes. Then it’s just about managing the game and managing the scoreline.

“I really feel for the players because I didn’t think they deserved that. I thought they were brave in their pressing to stop them from playing. 

“Then we played well ourselves. Created opportunities. Lloris made some great saves.”

LLORIS’ PERFORMANCES UNDER CONTE

During his years in Tottenham and France colours, Lloris has had his critics and divided opinions a lot.

But, ever since Conte walked through the doors at Hotspur Way, the experienced shot-stopper has put in some remarkable performances.

Lloris may not have secured a clean sheet yesterday, but he still provides game-changing moments for his free-scoring side to use and beat their opponents with.

He has been at Tottenham for a decade and he is yet to taste trophy success, but Lloris will know more than anyone that, under Conte, this is going to be their best chance to date.
