The Forest defender was heavily criticised for his performance during the 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
It’s been an interesting journey so far for Jamaal Lascelles.
The 20-year-old was once such a bright prospect that he was long linked with a move to Arsenal. Then, speculation surrounding his future pointed in the direction of Tottenham, Queens Park Rangers and many more.
In the end, Newcastle United completed the defender’s signing, loaning him back to Nottingham Forest for the season.
But the very reason that earned him a move – his impressive form at the City Ground – is no more, with many Forest fans asking just what has happened to the player.
| Interceptions Won | Tackles Won | Effective Clearances | Aerial Duels Won | Passing Accuracy | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Mancienne | 5 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 77% | 1 | 90 |
| Daniel Fox | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 72% | 1 | 83 |
| Jack Hunt | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 75% | 1 | 32 |
| Eric Lichaj | 2 | 2 | 4 | 2 | 59% | 1 | 58 |
| Jamaal Lascelles | 1 | 0 | 8 | 2 | 65% | 1 | 45 |
Last night’s defeat to Brentford was a case in point. Lascelles was certainly not his side’s only poor performer but he certainly was one of them.
As Opta stats show, the 20-year-old won just one interception and no tackles.
Interestingly, he did win two aerial duels and made eight clearances. Many supporters believe it is just a matter of ‘hoofing’ it long with Lascelles, however. When it came to finding a team-mate with his passes, the defender had the second-worst passing accuracy in Stuart Pearce’s side, aside from Karl Darlow (incidentally also a Newcastle summer signing).
Is Lascelles’ head simply already with the Magpies? Or is the defender not being coached properly by Pearce?
Either way, some fans have had enough of the Forest man’s performances – and are calling for him to join up with future club Newcastle early.
