Daniel Stendel’s departure was announced by Sunderland’s former League One rivals, Barnsley, on Tuesday.

Some Barnsley supporters expect Daniel Stendel to make a swift return to management – with Sunderland a popular, potential destination.
Stendel’s departure was announced by Barnsley on Tuesday morning, hours after speculation emerged that his position was in doubt.
That had some Sunderland fans on Twitter urging their side to appoint the German in place of Jack Ross, whose side are again falling short of pre-season expectations.
And this is what some of a Barnsley persuasion are saying about Stendel’s future…
A former Bundesliga striker with Hamburger SV and Hannover 96, Stendel also enjoyed brief success as manager of the latter club who sacked him in 2017.
The Frankfurter joined Barnsley the following summer and proved an instant success at Oakwell, where he achieved promotion last season at Sunderland’s expense.

But the Tykes lost several key players in the summer transfer window and currently sit 23rd in the Championship.
Could the former Barnsley boss turn up at Sunderland?
