Arsenal took one Real Madrid playmaker on loan in January as Martin Odegaard made the move to North London until the end of the season.
Odegaard has yet to earn a start for Arsenal, and whilst that will come soon, he may not end up staying beyond the summer.
Interestingly though, Odegaard wasn’t the only Real playmaker Arsenal look at, with Isco thought to be an alternative target.
The Daily Mail reported that Isco was a top option for Arsenal, but he was reluctant to move to London when his wife gave birth.
The 28-year-old has made just three league starts this season, and has now received another dent at Real Madrid.
Real are struggling for players at the moment, but Isco was still named on the bench to face Getafe on Tuesday night, playing just 14 minutes.

Former Tranmere youngster Marvin Park was picked instead in a rather bizarre move, and whilst Zinedine Zidane claimed to AS that Isco wasn’t fit enough to play, not everyone is convinced.
AS report that Tuesday’s snub was ‘the last humiliation’ for Isco, claiming there is a ‘total divorce’ between they playmaker and Zidane, with no way back.
Fans took to Twitter to suggest that last night’s lineup makes it clear that Isco is ‘finished’ and ‘done’ at Real Madrid, believing that he needs to leave Zidane in order to play – and who knows, maybe Arsenal are paying close attention.
