The Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, could sanction a long-term move for the youngster who came through the ranks at Ibrox.
The young Rangers striker, Andrew Dallas, has made a positive impression on fans of his prospective new club, after leaving Ibrox on trial.
Dallas scored at a prolific rate for Rangers’ development sides last season and continued where he left off in a closed-doors friendly against Cambridge last week.
That prompted the U’s boss, Colin Calderwood, to request a closer look at the Rangers academy product.
And after appearing in the friendly against Leicester City on Tuesday, Dallas is expected to remain at the Abbey Stadium for Ipswich Town’s visit on Saturday.
Calderwood admitted afterwards that he is keen to secure a more fixed-term arrangement with Rangers.
And several of a U’s appear to agree with their manager’s assessment.
Speaking to Cambridgeshire Live, Calderwood said: “I must admit I quite like what I see in him.
“What a tough ask to be examined against this opposition tonight [Leicester].
“There were moments in his movement that I liked when the ball came back to us.
“It would be very positive if we could get a deal done with him.”
Whether Dallas would leave Rangers on a permanent or temporary basis remains to be seen.
The 20-year-old appeared to have seen his Rangers prospects improve with the recent departures of Ryan Hardie and Kyle Lafferty.
