Well, the Bruno Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur speculation last summer was true, it turns out.

The Portugal international had long been linked with a move to North London, before joining Manchester United in January.

Last summer, it was reported that then-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wanted the former Sporting Lisbon playmaker at Spurs.

Fernandes himself confirmed the interest this afternoon, and here’s how fans of the Lilywhites reacted on Twitter:

Indeed, some of those fans hit the nail on the head when they said Daniel Levy went for Giovani Lo Celso instead.

It would’ve made no sense for Tottenham to get Fernandes and Lo Celso, especially given that Christian Eriksen was still a Spurs player at the time.

Before the season was suspended, Lo Celso was really coming into his own and produced some dazzling displays, particularly in the FA Cup.

Fernandes has been impressing at United, but long term there’s nothing to suggest that Levy made a mistake going for the Argentina international after being priced out of a move for the Portuguese, who moved for £67 million in the end.
