Newcastle United fans may have to wait some time before marquee signings arrive at St. James’ Park, according to Sky Sports.
Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Gareth Bale as the takeover edges closer to completion.
But Sky claim that Newcastle’s new owners aren’t playing on making an explosion of new signings as soon as they arrive.
Instead, the Saudi-investors want to build slowly, and it could take a few years before they have the tools in place to get Newcastle competing back at the top of the Premier League.
“It’s easy for a lot of supporters to get carried away with things and we see reports of huge name players – the likes of Gareth Bale and Edinson Cavani – but certainly the noises I’m hearing from the buying side is they won’t be investing to that level, certainly to start with anyway,” Sky claim.
“Some fans may be disappointed by that. Some fans might think that is a clever way to do things. But I just think some of the names being bandied around at the moment, it’s an open goal for agents.”

Even though Newcastle supporters may have to wait for high-profile players to arrive, that is unlikely to dampen their excitement over a potential takeover.
Newcastle fans have generally been desperate for a change of ownership for a number of years now, with Mike Ashley accused of lacking ambition.
Newcastle will become one of the richest clubs in world football if their current proposed takeover does go through, and that could make them a real force in the Premier League once again.
