Celtic teenager Karamoko Dembele has decided to commit his future to the England national team, rather than Scotland, The Scottish Sun report this week.

So far in his career he’s performed for both Scotland and England at U16s and U17s level, but will not be proceeding through the Scottish age ranks going forward.

Dembele has lived in Scotland since he was a small child, but was born in London.

The English FA are said by The Scottish Sun to have ‘rolled out the red carpet’ for the player, clearly having significant belief in his ability and potential.

The news comes as Dembele is set to make a renewed push towards to the Celtic first-team.

Neil Lennon gave the player his professional debut at the tail-end of last season, also naming him on the bench for the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts.

Having struggled with injury at the start of this term, he’s now fit again and ready to stake a claim. He was spotted in first-team training with the Hoops prior to the international break.

The move to embrace the England national team should help his development even further, working with more talented players than on offer working with the Scottish FA.

Fans, both of a Celtic persuasion and in England, have responded fairly positively to his reported decision, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts this week.
