It’s a very big few months for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Clarke.
Spurs spent £10 million on the 20-year-old back in the summer of 2019 but a couple of disappointing loan spell with Leeds United and QPR last season means that Clarke is much further away from competing at Hotspur Way than it was originally thought.
So when Tottenham sent him back to the Championship on another loan with Stoke City in January, there was a bit of pressure on the young winger.
And so far, it isn’t proving to be a brilliant stint in the second tier.
The former Leeds attacker has made nine league appearances under Michael O’Neill but worryingly, five of those came off the bench.
That was the same story again last night when Clarke was benched in the 2-0 defeat by Barnsley.
But suffice to say that some Stoke fans were perplexed with O’Neill’s decision not to start him and here’s how they reacted.
At Clarke’s age, confidence is such a massive thing and you do fear for his self-belief if he has a third-straight poor loan in the Championship.
Because if he’s struggle in the second division then obviously a lot of work needs to be done before he’s anywhere near ready to stake a claim in Tottenham’s senior squad.
