The Rangers midfielder was allowed to leave Ibrox on loan by Steven Gerrard.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers walks off after being sent off during the Scottish Cup Semi Final match between Rangers and Celtic at Hampden Park on April 15, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers have an option to recall Ross McCrorie in the January transfer window, according to their manager Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard sanctioned the young Rangers midfielder’s season-long move to Portsmouth earlier this summer.

And the Ibrox boss is, by his own admission unlikely, to cut short McCrorie’s Fratton Park spell (Football Scotland).

But after the Rangers academy product’s early displays this pre-season, some of a Portsmouth persuasion are already fearing the worst.

The League One side saw another on-loan midfielder, Ben Thompson, recalled by Millwall in January.

And this is what their fans are saying on Twitter…

Gerrard has said he wants McCrorie to follow in the footsteps of another Rangers midfielder, Greg Docherty, this season.

Docherty has been heavily involved in Rangers’ pre-season and Europa League schedule after excelling while on loan to Shrewsbury Town last term.

Gerrard also has Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo, Graham Dorrans, Andy Halliday and Matt Polster to call upon in the pair’s position.
