Everton maintained their impressive start to the season with a 1-1 draw away to Manchester United.
Andros Townsend was once again the hero. The winger saved a point for the Toffees whilst also pulling off a superb celebration to mock Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Crystal Palace star has been a revelation since arriving for free during the summer. Yet this piece is not about him, rather his teammate in the Everton defence, Ben Godfrey.
Indeed, whilst the England youngster was poor on the first goal as Antony Martial scored a beauty to open the scoring at Old Trafford, the Everton defender was overall impressive against Manchester United.
Godfrey commanded the defence well despite starting again in his unnatural position of right-back. Yet if you were watching the former Norwich star for the first time, you wouldn’t have realised fullback is not his normal role.
As well as impressing defensively, Godfrey also did well in the attack. The Everton star created 1 chance and completed 11 forward passes in total against Manchester United, an impressive tally for a centre-back playing out of position.
Everton fans loved Godfrey’s performance vs. Manchester United

Everton fans were blown away by how impressive Godfrey was despite being poor on the Manchester United opener. And on social media, the praise was plentiful for the York-born defender.
Here’s what some Everton supporters had to say on Twitter about Godfrey’s display against Manchester United…
