Everton were thumped by the French outfit on Saturday.

Some Everton fans aren’t loving the prospect of seeing Michael Keane in defence this season.

The Toffees lost 4-1 at Rennes in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, with a goal from £50 million debutant Richarlison one of the few positives for Everton yesterday.

There were, however, a whole host of negatives and one biggie comes in the form of Keane’s performance.

The former Burnley man, who earns £60,000 per week [Silly Season] at Goodison Park following his arrival last summer, endured his fair share of hairy moments and was often caught flat footed.

The 25-year-old also looked like he was struggling with pace, and some Everton fans have given their two cents on his performance yesterday.

On the back of that performance you can understand why Marco Silva’s side are being linked with the likes of Yerry Mina and Domagoj Vida.

With Keane, Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams comprising their centre-back options, the Portuguese manager badly needs top-class reinforcements ahead of the new season.

What good is spending £50 million on Richarlison if the goals that he scores or creates are for nothing when the defence is leaky?
