Everton have been linked with a £50million move for Watford winger Richarlison.
Sam Allardyce has told TalkSPORT that Everton fans would prefer to see players in their peak arrive at Goodison Park this summer rather than Richarlison – but some Everton fans have reacted by ridiculing their former manager.
Sky Sports understands that the 21-year-old winger, who was brought to the Premier League and Watford by Marco Silva last summer, is set to undergo a medical at Everton ahead of a huge £50million move.
Richarlison starred for Watford during the early part of the season following his move from Fluminense, but failed to score a Premier League goal after a 2-0 win over West Ham United in November.
However, Everton are set to splash the huge eight-figure offer on the Brazil youth international, despite a warning from Allardyce to new boss Silva, who claims Toffees fans want players in their peak – not ones with potential.
“He’s seen him at first hand and worked with him on a daily basis, so he’s backing his own judgement,” Allardyce said. “What I would say to be careful about is Everton fans what the absolute first-class player now, to play now.
“If you’re buying Richarlison as a future player, that’s not what Everton fans want to see at the moment.”
Richarlison featured in every single Premier League game for Watford last season, scoring five goals and creating another five for the Herefordshire-based club.
He has a contract at Watford until the summer of 2022, but it seems as though a move is progressing well and a deal is likely to be struck to see the Brazilian becomes Everton’s first signing of the summer.
Some Everton fans reacted to Allardyce’s comments on Twitter, with many criticising the former England boss for not doing as he says during his time at Goodison Park.
