Jose Mourinho’s future at Manchester United has taken a huge plunge into doubt after Monday night’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton boss Marco Silva is on the club’s shortlist of replacements.

The Independent reports that United are willing to give Mourinho time to turn his side’s fortunes around, after back-to-back losses to Tottenham and Brighton – but are said to have drawn up a shortlist just in case the Portuguese manager departs.

Silva joins a star-studded list including Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, highly-rated Monaco gaffer Leonardo Jardim and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino, as well as Zinedine Zidane and France manager Didier Deschamps/

The Portuguese has quickly developed a well-regarded reputation after moving to England in January 2017 to take over Hull City, performing admirably as the club came close to surviving relegation that summer.

He then took over Watford, before joining Everton this summer where he has drawn twice and won once, beating Southampton. He also has a Greek Super League triumph with Olympiakos, and a Portuguese Cup with Sporting Lisbon.

Some Everton fans reacted to the news that their new manager was being linked with a move to Old Trafford just three games into his spell as Toffees manager, with one fan Tweeting: “no way will he leave”.
