Williams has struggled to retain his Swansea form at Everton.
Everton centre-back Ashley Williams is reportedly a target for Championship club Stoke City ahead of their bid to bounce back into the Premier League at the first attempt – and some Everton fans have urged the club to conclude a deal.
The Daily Mail claim Stoke fancy the 31-year-old on a season-long loan, though his £65,000-a-week wages at Goodison park provide somewhat of a stumbling block.
It is believed that Marco Silva prefers other options at centre-back, and Wales international Williams is said to be keen on a move to the Britannia Stadium due to its location and the chance to link up with ex-Swansea teammate Joe Allen.
Williams has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Goodison Park and the club may rather sell the powerhouse defender for a fee this summer, rather than losing him for nothing next time around.
Stoke could do with another centre-back, after loaning out Kevin Wimmer to Hannover. It leaves Rowett with just Bruno Martins Indi and Ryan Shawcross, with Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea.
Some Everton fans are desperate to see the back of Williams, but fans are wary that a loan spell is likely to see Williams leave on a free next summer – rather than selling him now for a fee.
