Celtic fans have long held the suspicion that Marian Shved is a big talent and last night proved as much.

The 23-year-old officially signed for the Hoops two years ago but has only managed 15 minutes of Premiership football since.

For whatever reason, Neil Lennon doesn’t appear to rate the Ukraine international – who was signed during Brendan Rodgers’s reign at Parkhead – and the Celtic boss loaned him to Belgian outfit Mechelen back in August.

Even there, it’s taken a while for Shved to warm up, but two goals in a 3-2 win away to Waasland-Beveren last night illustrates that there is something exciting about him.

Shved, who set up the opener, latched on to a defence-splitting pass before dinking the hosts’ goalkeeper to make it 2-0 on 26 minutes.

Beveren fought back to make it 2-2, but the Celtic loanee pounced again in the 92nd minute, tapping home from close range following a goal-mouth scramble.

Lennon has intimated in the past that the player is low on confidence and therefore found it difficult to succeed in Glasgow, but performances like these are a big reminder of his ability.
